Help us build our Family Patchwork Quilt

Help us build our Family Patchwork QuiltFamily and home mean different things for different people. To give everyone the opportunity to think about what their families and their homes mean to them, Adoption@Heart is weaving a new "Family Patchwork Quilt".

We’re inviting children and other members of the local community to design their very own patch. For each of these patches we’re asking you to create your own design, and share a short message about what family and home means to you. Then, we’ll weave all of these designs together into a huge quilt, which we’ll be sharing digitally on our website and physically at events across the local area. The final quilt will be created by local Black Country artist Alex Vann.

If you live in any of our 4 local authorities (City of Wolverhampton, Dudley, Sandwell and Walsall) or their surrounding areas (like Telford, Cannock, Kidderminster and Birmingham), we’d love for you to get involved.

How can I make my own Patch?

You can design your own patch at home by downloading and printing our patch template from the list of downloads at the bottom of this page.

Your school might also be hosting its own patch-making lessons. If you work in a school and you’d like to get involved, please download one of the teaching toolkits below or get in touch with us directly.

Where do I send my finished Patch?

After you’ve designed your patch, we’ll need you to scan it and send it to us using this upload link.

Upload your Patch

Please don’t take a photograph, we need scans so our artist has the highest quality documents possible to make the final quilt. If you don’t have your own scanner at home, check if you can scan it at school or at one of the great libraries in our area.

When will the Patchwork Quilt get made?

Our family and home patchwork quilt project kicks off on September 29th and runs until the following month, November 3rd. If you’d like to contribute a patch, please make sure to send it to us before this date (November 3rd, 2025).

We’ll then be hard at work stitching the quilt together. Our grand unveiling of the digital quilt will be at the beginning of November, and it’ll be hosted right here on our website.

The first unveiling of our physical quilt will be at Fringe Arts Wolverhampton, which is being held from the 28th to the 30th of November at various places across Wolverhampton. We’re also hoping to exhibit the quilt at other events in the future, so keep an eye out for future announcements.
